Planet of the Apes

by Pierre Boulle

I had heard that the book was much different from the movie and though I'm no huge fan of the movie (or it's sequels) I had heard enough good things to get the book. Overall, quite good! Instead of taking place on a primative planet (a movie decision based on budget and time constraints) it happens in a pretty modern city. The book gets more into the reasoning behind why apes rule the planet, theories which I found very interesting. Instead of the Rod Serling Statue of liberty ending, there is an equally Twilight Zonish ending. Highly recommended whether you like the movie or now... just good plain science fiction writing. You go, Pierre!
